  10. What is Finger?
  11.  
  12. Finger allows users to obtain information about other users if you know their E-mail address. Finger can display phone numbers, mailing addresses, or whatever other type of information that person wants you to know.

  15. Install Finger Plug-in
  16.  
  17. 1. Copy the Finger Plug-in System Resource to the System Folder: CE Software Folder: Directory Services Folder.

  19. 2. Open QuickMail.
  20.  
  21. 3. In the Tools menu, select Directory Services.
  22.  
  23. 4. In the Active Directory Services dialog, select Finger Plug-in and click Configure.
  24.  
  25. 5. In the Finger Plug-in Preferences dialog, specify the Timeout interval. Choose whether you want Finger to retain the Progress information of your searches.

  27. 6. Click OK.

  30. Use Finger Plug-in

  32. 1. Create a message in QuickMail and click the Address button.
  33.  
  34. 2. In the Address dialog, click Find. The Finger Query dialog appears
  35.  
  36. 3. Click on balloon help to learn more about the different Finger options in the dialog.

  38. 4. In the Finger Query field, type and E-mail address or the name of the host machine. For example, type Tim@cornell.edu or simply type cornell.edu.

  40. 5. Click Finger and view the progress of the search in the Response dialog. To retain the contents of the Response field, click "Retain Progress Log".

  42. 6.  If Finger locates an E-mail address, click Extract Address. The Address dialog appears with the E-mail address you extracted in the "To" field.

  44. Note: If you type a host address in the Finger Query field, you can view the names of the users who are logged in on that machine.
